Bringing Our Blogging World Closer Together

                                      www.publicdomainpictures.net

I don't know how you guys feel, but I sometimes see the 'blogosphere' as a double-edged sword.  There are times, usually when one of you are sharing either great joy or great pain, that I wish we could sit down over a drink and talk things over. Communicating as we do doesn't allow this; yet were it not for the computer none of us would have had a chance to meet in the first place.

For many of us our blog evolves over time as we change.  One of my goals now is to find new ways to keep things interesting, to try things that aren't being done very often.  I've had a desire lately to bring our world closer beyond these pages.  I know there are other ways to provide tangible proof to each other that we exist.

It's difficult to explain to those outside the blogging community how these friendships are forged.  Over time they can become very real indeed, the only difference being of course that the physical interaction isn't there.   So what I'm asking for are ideas from you as to how we can share a part of ourselves in other ways.  Perhaps an exchange of some sort to leave a physical memento of ourselves behind, to mark the impact we may have on others. Just a way of saying outside of our words, "I'm here."

One of my favourite bloggers came up with an idea in a post which spurred my thinking.  I won't reveal what she's doing yet or any ideas I have, as I don't want it to colour any suggestions.  I will shortly.
In the meantime I'm doing a little dreaming...

                                             Letting My Mind Run Free

At one time or another most of us have dreamt of what we'd do if we won an obscene amount of money.  I love to travel, so I figured what better way to put some of it to use than to see the world?

This is my proposition, I've discussed it with Sandy and it is a dream but you can hold me to it as a promise.  If we win big, we'll come visit twenty of my favourite bloggers, no matter where in the world you live. (Provided of course you want me there!)

I think it would be amazing to meet you guys in person!  Of course I wouldn't have to get back anytime soon because I'd be retired, so basically I'd stay until either you get sick of me or I've eaten all your food.

Hey, I can always dream.  In the meantime I'd love to hear any suggestions you have to make our connections even more real.  Let your mind run free.

  1. Hmmm...I'm going to have to think about this one...I want to come up with a good/realistic idea. :) I'll get back to you!
I like your idea of visiting 20 bloggers if you win or come across a large amount of money. Hehe. I hope you do! I hope I would be one of the bloggers you would visit...but if not, that's okay.
If I won the lottery, I would definitely go out and visit you and Sandy. Omg if I won the millions of dollars, I'd buy you guys sports cars too!! Oh, I hope I win...I hope I win...
I'm buying a lottery ticket tomorrow. Thanks for the idea! :P

  2. Barry, come and visit me here in Manila. I'll take you and Sandy to the fabulous beaches here, I'll let you eat tons of Filipino food. It will be such an amazing experience. Just thinking about that possibility makes me so excited. Spend a month or two in the Philippines. You won't regret the trip. I wish you win the lottery. Hugs!

  3. B man, please come but don't eat my food. I am a hoarder of food. I will beat you with my crossiant if you eat my food.

I always appreciate thoughtful comments and I hate it when everyone leaves the same thing on my blog. I have been thinking about what you said to make the videos longer but then, I am not sure if anyone would like to see me talk more. hahahahha

  4. Oh Visit me!! I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know you & Sandy. Yeah I do miss the physical interaction that is not possible on Blogger. I actually just wrote how I'm gunna meet someone I've known for years some point this month but I'm a lil like ohh this is weird. Then it brought to my attention that I might not be what he expected if he met me, so I think that's why I'm scared. But, that's why honesty is so key in the cyber world. If your honest what's not to like about someone you've known through the cyber world ya know? Great post, great idea. =)

I hope you have a great week Barry!!

  5. Awesome!! You guys will come to picturesque Waterloo, Ontario! Make sure you have your up to date passports, I hear the border crossing at Scarborough is pretty rough. Funny you should mention about something physical and tangible between bloggers. The Lovely C and I are watching "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants". I'm sure you know the story. I know it's a chick flick (groan..), but how about exchanging gifts from our native cities. I'll send you an Octoberfest sausage (next October)

  6. Jen, we would absolutely come see you! No need to tempt me with a sports car, although it doesn't hurt. :)

Leah, the beaches in Manila sound heavenly right now. I'd kill to be there right now!! If this dream of mine comes true you'll definitely be part of it. I'd love to meet your boys.

Val, HK would be an amazing trip! I'd totally eat all your food; I think I'm overdue for a good croissant flogging anyway. Make sure it's fresh though, 'cause stale would just be kinky. ;)

Miss Melanie, you know we'd be there if we could sweetie! I'm dying to know how it goes with this guy you're meeting. He'll love you, how couldn't he?

Tony, "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants"? Oh bud, you are SO owned! Hahaha!! Yeah, me saying that after having finished washing dishes a while ago. Who am I kidding? :)

  7. Barry, I miss your comments. Great that you found time to drop by my blog today. Yes, I'll take you to our famous beaches. There are 7000+ islands in the Philippines and every island has a beach so go figure, you'll spend a lot of time here. Hahaha! And you'll definitely meet my little rascals.

And you read Val's blog, funny about those emails that I rock those DM's.
